Build Your Future

The MBIA Residential Carpenter Apprentice Program provides an opportunity for apprentices to learn in-demand construction skills and earn a good, living wage.

The program meets all federal and state requirements for formal apprenticeship and prevailing wage work including employer-sponsored classroom instruction and on-the-job training. It is the first nationally recognized Residential Carpenter Apprenticeship Certification in Maryland

Through this program, we will help the public, guidance counselors and parents understand that the building industry provides a high income, significant work values, job security and a sense of accomplishment.

WHY SHOULD YOU BECOME AN APPRENTICE

WHY SHOULD YOU HIRE APPRENTICES

  • Earn while you learn. Apprentices are paid a progressive wage while they learn valuable job skills.
  • Increase your earning potential. The average annual starting salary for an apprentice graduate is $50,000 (according to U.S. Department of Labor statistics).
  • Be in demand. Learn the skills and gain the credentials that employers want.
  • Become more confident. Gain self-assurance by working independently under the tutelage of a journeyperson.
  • Make new friends. Apprenticeship training classes attract people of all ages and backgrounds.
  • Build your workforce. Train workers in the specific skills needed by your company.
  • Reduce turnover costs. Registered apprentices boast an impressive 91% retention rate.
  • Increase productivity. Apprentices report high levels of motivation, satisfaction and loyalty. For every dollar spent on an apprenticeship, U.S. employers get $1.47 back in increased productivity.
  • Make your workplace safer. A well trained workforce can reduce worker compensation costs.
  • Plan for employee succession. Registered apprenticeships help you to successfully facilitate the transfer of knowledge from experienced employees to new recruits.
  • Take advantage of tax credits and financial incentives. Maryland offers businesses valuable support to build a reliable pipeline of qualified workers.
